Written by Recapping over what I have messed with over the past Year, we see a lot of change through the year.
Jobs
I was working for the ambulance service in Lincoln, this was a one year fixed term contract as they were not sure what changes would happen as they were merging with East Midlands Ambulance Service. It never went well with me in a constant fight about having to go to Nottingham on a regular basis, Using my Own car and many other things. I finally ended this and started a new Job With C Spencer Ltd based in Barrow Upon Humber. The main thing was Lincoln took me at least 1 hour to get there / back and of course been on call where as this job was 20-30 Minutes drive away, 8:30am – 5pm and no weekend work. I am much happier in this new job and this is permanent.
MMORPG
I used to be into Mir3 which I followed over the years from 2.9 to Job to 3G. I lost count of the hours I sat there converting Chinese to Broken English and then into Decent English, making the quests work and god knows what else. I had learned that running a Live server whilst allowing people to play for Free was a strain on my time and my bandwidth and it cost me money to buy a web site and run the PC 24/7.
I progressed to Lineage 2 which failed many times as a Live server due to people not liking it, not having the hardware or having a choice of the many out there (its Open source after all). I had played every variations on each of the Characters and played the game to death basically. Half the game was missing due to lack of players which was needed along with Drawfs to create items and so forth.
I moved into Mangos which was open source (C++) World of Warcraft Emulator and it slowly got better and better and more things worked. The problem was by time they had some of the things working, I had Levelled a Hunter to Level 63 and a Mage to 70. I had seen all the maps, the mobs and done the quests many times – most never worked which was annoying. Although I still Update this every now and then, I have not played it as a normal player for some time.
Lastly inbetween all of this I played a Free to Play one – Rappelz. I levelled a Character to 50 and it became boring grinding for hours on end to get 4-5%. If you bought the shop items (costing real money) then you could get 3x Exp all the time and better kit but this is not a route I wished to take. I finally gave this Char away and he is now Level 80 I heard.
What Next?
I am now messing with UStream and a local web server for a forum, I have no real need for a Proper Web site as I have nothing to talk about. I tried Linux (Ubuntu) and it worked and was great UNTIL I updated it one day and lost the 3D Part. I am back to Vista and XP Once again on all my machine.
