clampedI wanted to grab a Linux Distro (Sabayon) and used FTP to get this, the latest was on DVD only (3.87 Gigs) and I started this I thought well within the time period for been throttled. Later I came back and it was still downloading – the speed was the trade mark 2mbits and upon speed testing – was confirmed I was been throttled.I went off and checked the numbers – after all how was I expected to use my connection now?

You can see from this chart that from 10am all the way to 3pm (5 hour period) – my download only is brought to it’s knee’s once I have used up 2.4Gigs by whatever means. You may argue that 2.4Gigs is a lot and I agree that I will not be downloading a Linux DVD every single day and will be at work anyhow for most part. The 3.87 gigs Iso you can see easy – tripped the monster into action and I was capped – for 5 Hours !!

This means I have no usable connection to speak of from let us say 2:30pm to 7:30pm (give or take) and if I am not careful – I can in fact get capped again from 9pm which would take me all the way to 2am, so I might as well be paying for a 2mbit / 100K connection at this rate.

The question remains – what can I do about this? Should I ring support and ask them to remove the cap? last time they just upgraded me to 20mbit and charged me for it – great support that.
