Vista has a Rating system built right into the OS and the major problem here is it’s max number is 5.9 – as technology moves on, how do they scale this number and what does the end number actually mean?
The Rating System is broken down into:
- Processor
- Memory
- Graphics
- Gaming Graphics
- Hard Disk
It tests each of these, gives it a rating and the final rating is whichever is the lowest setting out of all of them. Games can highlight that for the game to work properly – it requires a rating of 4.5 but you can score a low number even if you get a 5.9 on the graphics card and the game will work fine but it will show it as lower and give you the impression it will not work.
To give a good example – Two Laptops, one has a Intel 945 Graphics card which is in no way suitable for gaming and the other has an ATI X1270 which can play most games even if a low setting (its the same grunt as a ATI X300). Vista gives the Intel one a 3.1 Score while the ATI comes in lower on Gaming graphics as 3.0 – how is this even possible? Before you mention drivers – I got the latest on both.
