I spotted this device while out some time ago and the idea looked good, plug in various USB Devices such as Hard Drives, Printers and the like and have them shared out across the network. I choose not to buy this device at the time even if it sounded like what I needed as I like to make sure the device does what I think it should do.
Basically what you do is plug the device into the network via the RJ45 connector and then you plug in your devices, you can use USB hubs to further extend the ports available. Th Device though is not show on the network like a NAS box would, for this you need to install software on each machine which then picks up the devices and maps a drive. Further problems come about in that it is not a Multi shared device and only one PC (person) can access the device at one time.
The Bottom line is that this is in no way the answer to provide a cheap NAS solution, I myself had the idea of taking all my external USB Drives (Various Sizes) and having them as one big NAS station without the need for any computers to be on (apart from the one that needed access of course). I am not sure what market this is aimed at and further makes me hate anything to do with Belkin – I have no faith in buying anything with that name on.
