Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) is an audio driver allowing you to transfer audio streams from one application to another. It creates a pair of the audio input/output devices. Any application can send audio to the output device, and other application can receive this stream from the input device.

If more than one applications are sending audio to VAC, it will mix all streams together. If more than one applications are receiving audio from VAC, it will share the same audio data between all targets.

VAC Features

  • Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista platforms (32-bit and 64-bit).
  • Native WDM/KS audio technology.
  • Up 256 Virtual Cables (Windows limits number of MME devices to 32. Number of DirectSound devices is not limited). Trial version is limitedto 2 cables only.
  • 1..20 milliseconds per interrupt.
  • 1..100 pin instances.
  • Almost any of fixed point PCM audio formats (200..1000000 samples per second, 8..32 bits persample, 1..8 channels). Floating point formats are not supported.
  • Almost no sound latency with maximal interrupt frequency.
  • Unlimited number of clients connected to each port.
  • Signal mixing (with saturation) between output port clients.
  • PCM format conversion.
  • Volume control features.
  • Control Panel application to dynamically configure cables.
  • Audio Repeater application that transfers from any Wave In to any Wave Out port.

Audio Repeater

Audio Repeater application allows you to duplicate an audio stream and transfer it to another output.

For example, to hear what you record (see the picture below).

  • Top Picture: You do not hear what you record, because of entire audio stream is redirected to the VAC.
  • Bottom Picture: You hear what you record, because of Auto Repeater duplicates an audio stream and transfers it to speakers.

Windows has the ability on most sound cards to use the “Record what U Hear” type input and what this does is take any sound coming out of the sound card and enable this for Mic input – a good example here is to broadcast the Audio from your Skype call while broadcasting let us say. The problem with this come when “other” Windows sounds starts coming through such as every windows bong and any game sound etc.

This software would allow you to focus only the audio from Skype and broadcast that and as it can many “Virtual Cables” – you could bring in the Audio from YouTube or whatever. Think of this as a Software Mixing desk if you desk.
