Microsoft have been busy working on a replacement for there OneCare as in “All in One” AntiVirus + Spyware application which will be Free once it comes out. A couple of days ago they allowed 75,000 copies into the wild for people to test it out, with versions for XP, Vista/Win7 32bit & 64Bit.
The Acer Desktop was small and was prone to getting very hot inside which caused the CPU Fan to jump from 998RPM to 4500+ RPM which meant it sounded like an Aircraft taking off. You could argue that UK does not get Hot that much but the room were the computer are was very hot indeed – even with Desktop Fans blowing onto me – it was still like living in a Sauna.

There is a collection of web sites from named manufacture’s that sell refurbished goods at much cheaper then shop price. The Items were either returned, fixed and no needed and it could shave off a lot of money as a good alternative to a brand new product. Most Items also come with a full 12 Month Warranty as well.
While I do order things online now and then, sometimes I am happier to walk / drive to the computer stores as it works out either quicker, cheaper or both and of course much easier to return. By random chance, after looking at Dell Refurb – I spotted that they featured a ATI Radeon 4670 Graphics card and this set me off to look at what this offered.
The iMac was quiet no matter what and this has a 2.8GHz CPU and built into the confines of a monitor. Laptops by there very design are quiet for most part but desktop Machine’s for some reason are too noisy. I see them in the shops and they seem very quiet but the environment is not a library – so easy to be fooled. I have seen (or rather heard) an HP machine which was so quiet, you would be mistaken that it was actually on until you work out the inside is low powered crap.
My current desktop computer is a Acer which has been upgraded by way of the CPU and harddrives and seen as it#s an off the shelf thing, it has a standard 350 Watt power Supply and a rather limited case I would say. I pondered on upgrading what I have (cheaper) or buying a new one outright for the new technology. The current spec of the machine is Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4Ghz), 4 GIG DDR-2 Ram, 1TB + 250Gig HD, Geforce 7600GS.
In the previous Story we seen how the iMac had left the building and this meant for me that my existing desktop / Laptop machines would come back as the main machines and be used as they say – “In Anger”. I shall go into how I found it working full time Windows (Vista / Windows 7) as my only operating system.
I was a long time supporter of all things PC and by this I mean Windows, Linux, Build it yourself desktop machine and so forth – Apple were (and still are) expensive for what you actually get considering now they use the same hardware as a desktop PC. What you may also have noticed was wrote about and Owned a top of the range iMac – so how come this post? Let me explain all.
