Dino PC – The continued story
I wish to write about my sister dealing so far with this company, you can find them HERE and they go by the name of Dino PC. I already wrote about this before in my previous story but we ask, what has happened since? Is my sister now a happy end user of a fast and cheap desktop pc and was my shouts of “go to Dell” all wrong?
Ustream Producer
Ustream have finally released there butchered version of wirecast which works only on Ustream. To put this in a nutshell, Wirecast is a $450 piece of software that works like a software tricaster and looks like they have been working with Ustream to make a version just for them. The Free version works better then the Test version of Wirecast, no annoying “This is a test” or Watermark and the pro version basically is Wirecast but for $199 cost – that’s half the price.
Multimedia PC Medion AKOYA E4355 D
On the 4th Feb 2010 ALDI have a special deal on a desktop PC for the price of £399.99. This is a Core i3-530 CPU running at 2.93Ghz, 3 GIG ram, 1TB HD and so forth. As is always the case with anything at ALDI, once it has gone, you won’t see it again – so be quick to get this deal.
Firefox 3.6 and Avast V5 – Updates
Just a heads up really, Firefox finally gets updated to version 3.6, adds Personas (Themes) and many speed improvements. Another one updated of late is is Avast - this is now at version 5, includes new voices and such. Seems the Auto Update fails to grab this new version so you are going to need to download and upgrade.
Install Eggdrop on Ubuntu 9.10
EggDrop: Eggdrop is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) program for Linux or UNIX users that sits in the background of an IRC Channel to manage and protect a chat. Eggdrop, sometimes referred to as a “bot” (short for “robot”) program, allows the chat manager to keep a list of users, erase users who haven’t been on the channel within a specific time period, keep a list of users who have been banned, prevent channel flooding, and perform other common chat channel management tasks. In this guide, I shall merge the one already online with my own additions to get it up and running.
Lineage 2 Java Server
There is a game called Lineage 2, its a Korean MMORPG using the point and click movement, runs using the Unreal engine and is 3D and has been going in Pay to play now for many years, even longer then World of Warcraft by far. There is a Java Server server (the guys who wrote it only knew java) which allows anyone to run a server and play the game without paying a monthly fee for the real thing. This quick story is my few days stabbing at a laptop trying to get it to work.
Dell Optiplex 160 – Overview
Came across one of these the other day and found it quite an interesting idea for business needing a very small form factor computer which can be fitted behind a monitor / TV to drive a simple application. The goal of this machine is not power due to it been driven by an Atom CPU but its very small indeed and has the power supply fitted inside (no power brick).

Tesco VX1i a good second phone?
While out shopping today in Tesco (UK Supermarket selling many things including food) I spotted a very small mobile been sold sim-free for £18. The board advertising this explained that it makes an ideal 2nd emergency mobile phone that is sim-free, unlocked and is to be used when your super smart (but battery intensive) Smart phone (read iphone, Android) runs out of juice.
