Dell Optiplex 160 – Overview
Came across one of these the other day and found it quite an interesting idea for business needing a very small form factor computer which can be fitted behind a monitor / TV to drive a simple application. The goal of this machine is not power due to it been driven by an Atom CPU but its very small indeed and has the power supply fitted inside (no power brick).
Spec
Dual core Atom CPU
Two dimm slots to allow a max 4GIG ram
10/100/1000 Ethernet port at the back.
Wireless Built in (large Ariel at the back)
Hard drive is 2.5” (Laptop size) – comes with 20GIG SSD
Dimensions
Weight: 4.6lbs/2.09kg
Height: 9.02"/22.9cm
Width: 1.85"/4.7cm
Depth: 8.86"22.5cm
What is the end goal here?
This by no means a desktop replacement, the speed of the atmo CPU is fine for netbooks for way too slow for desktops. It has no DVD Drive at all, so your going to need an external DVD to install anything (or other means). The graphics card will not drive 1080p Movies, so you can forget it been a media centre (there is better machines for this task).
Where it is aimed at is the business market in need of a very small footprint computer with no power brick that sits to complete a specific task at hand such as displaying live stats, showing the output of webcams (in the server room) and so forth.
Not sure of the graphics card but I imagine it been an Intel of some kind.
