You make video’s that are longer then 10 minutes and you have your own site normally with unlimited space and bandwidth but you bang you head on the wall wondering how you are going to get the video’s on your web site right? I did a bit of research and could not believe how easy it was to have your very own video on your site without using or paying for extra services.
WordPress + Plugins
The first stage is you need for this is a wordpress site and then you need to add a plug-in Flash Video Player – once activated you now have the ability to embed video’s into your post as required.
Getting the Video online
For this part we will need to be able to FTP files to your webhost, once you can do this, make a folder known to you for video’s – we shall call this youtube for example. But what videos and formats can we use?
Media – MP3/MP4/FLV/JPG/PNG/GIF/YouTube
Streaming – RTMP/HTTP
Playlists – ATOM/ASX/RSS+iTunes/RSS+Media/SMIL/XSPF
We can see that it’s limited but do not let that stop you, there is many video converters out there that can take any video and turn it into a FLV for example. Once you have your Video converted and uploaded, you just start a post and put the following in there:
[ flashvideo file=youtube/my-video.flv /]
Remembering to take the space from the first bracket and the word flashvideo.
Feel free to visit FAQ site for some extra stuff like how to specify the dimension and such. Armed with this – you can now dump that expensive Vimeo monthly fee and not worry about breaking the videos into 10 minute segments.
