UK Broadband supplier Virgin Media are set to increase the upload speed of all its tiers starting now and rolling out area by area. There is no extra cost for this service and on there fastest service (XXL) they are going form 1.5Mbps to 5Mbps, the lower speed tariff 20Mbps (XL) will have their upload changed from 768K to 2Mbps. With the good also comes the bad – not only are they restricting your traffic as before but also slowing down Newsgroup and Torrent Traffic.

Don’t Trust Registry Cleaners
You may have seen the various programs out there promising you the cure-all easy running registry fix and if your computer is running slow and not quite right, then you might be tempted into running one of these many programs out there in the hope it will make everything well once again. I have recently used Windows Live One care to scan and fix all the problems on my machine – did it do the trick or in fact did it make it 10x worse?

Logitech Brings the Balls
While the mouse as a pointing device has both survived and evolved, the trackball is nearly extinct, except on select smartphones.
Trackballs are wonderful solutions for those with limited desk space, so it’s a shame that there aren’t more of them. Logitech, however, is revitalizing one of its classic trackball designs in the soon-to-ship Wireless Trackball M570.
Something stationary like a trackball doesn’t demand to be wireless, but Logitech has the nano receiver technology so it’s seen fit to pair that with the M570. From a single AA battery, the M570 will last an estimated 18 months before another cell is required.
The Wireless Trackball M570 will hit stores later this month with an MSRP of $59.99.
Seagate Launch 1.5TB portable drive
Tuesday Seagate introduced the world’s first 1.5 TB 2.5-inch portable external drive, costing a rather meaty $249.99 at select retailers and online via Seagate.com. The new portable drive follows the release of Seagate’s 3 TB GoFlex Desk drive and the Momentus XT solid state hybrid drive.
According to the company, the new 1.5 TB FreeAgent GoFlex drivewill ship with a USB 3.0 interface cable, allowing data transfers up to 10x via a compatible USB 3.0 port when compared to USB 2.0 connection speeds. The drive will also come packed with the new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 cable for plugging the device into USB 2.0 ports.
Blogging – why and how
This site runs on WordPress and is by definition a blog, strange to write a post about the very thing you are looking at right? Well no, I plan to go through why YOU might think about starting a Blog, what it does, why do it and other questions of that nature. As with most things in life, this is just my view on the subject and I cannot promise you anything.
Growl for Windows
Back when I owned a iMac, I installed and used Growl for Mac – the utility ran in the background and popped up telling you when the track changed in iTunes, you had new mail and various other functions. Back then the Windows Version was not so good and very early in development – it is not until recently that I downloaded an application that could send Growl messages – I went on my search for the Windows version.
Are Netbooks Dying out?
I have heard the USA Based Tech Hosts declare that the end of notebooks is in sight and they serve no real purpose in life and things such as the Apple iPad will overtake the notebook market by next year. I own a netbook myself (the first gen Acer One) and while it does serve some handy purposes, it is not about to replace my laptop any time soon. Do you think the bell’s are sounding for Netbooks as yet another passing fad or do you think they are here to stay?
Synology NAS thoughts and uses
Having used these devices now on a daily basis across a handful of machines, used most of the services it has to offer and even added some extra packages, I wanted to write a post about how I felt this was holding up and was it living up to the hype or was it starting to crack under the pressure? This is written with one users in mind (me) across computers running Windows 7, Linux and Mac OS X – the main aim of this was a shared Music, Movie, Backdrops collection, example been if I add some wallpapers, all the computers can use them as required.
Choosing the right media device
(Betamax for the win)
Technology moves on and people try and find easier and better ways to manage and watch media, be it video, pictures or even music on there TV. It was not that long ago that it was quite simple, you bought a DVD Player that suited your price range and features, plugged it into your TV and you can now go out and buy movies on DVD. Storing 100′s of Movies presented an issue and there had to be a better way – and now there is, media streaming devices come in many shapes and sizes as well as cost and functions – this post serves as a grounding on what to look for.
