As we approach the end of April 2011, I thought I would update those interested in my current passion and this is going to the gym to get bigger, stronger and fitter. If you recall I got this Five day routine from the internet but never started the routine straight away. I joined the gym on the 7th March, spent one week on some general (and wrong) training, the next week I was ill – this meant I never started this routine until 21st March. The purpose of the routine is a simple one, you only do two muscle groups per day which means each muscle has 6 days of rest and you also have two days rest in the week.
Choosing the right gym
The gym that I joined is a lot like the picture I used for this story, it is geared for pumping metal and it hides away the running machines and such in another room. Unlike the more popular gyms, this means you can get on with your workout and not be overwhelmed by sheer numbers. The other thought is people tend not to join gym’s as they do not want to look too skinny / fat or whatever but hey, everyone has to start somewhere.
My Routine
The goal of my training is to do my work day, get to the gym straight after, get this session out of the way and it leaves the rest of the night for me to get a shower, eats and chill out. Mondays I managed to get away from work by 4:30pm and I get to train with my work buddy which is great for both spotting (making sure I do not crush myself with the weights) and motivation. The only problem with Monday is that everybody is doing chest and there is always a lot of people there, this means I cannot get to the equipment I need.
As the week goes on, less and less people are there, my only issue (with myself) is that I see all these people with big arms, chests and whatever and it seems years away till I get this kind of size. I maybe push myself too hard sometimes and in the early stages I noticed that my body was pumped up after the session but the next day my arms were back to skinny again – most annoying. Of course as time and training has moved on, my body has now got the core muscle and is keeping it size.
Joining for Longer
At the moment I pay a monthly fee, if I sign up for 12 months (sounds a long time), I get £10 cheaper per month and still pay monthly of course but by Direct Debt. £25 a month is not a major amount, I was spending that playing football at work one day each week. I am enjoying the gym and love that my body is starting to finally change on me – I have a long way to go yet, I also want to join some sort of Martial Art, but nothing is around at the moment.
