You may have read the recent posts of Monitoring Electric Use and PowerDown Plugs and you may be thinking “Has this guy gone Eco Friendly??” – the simple answer is I had enough of chucking money away on Gas and Electric Bills and thought it was about time I stopped wasting on items that had no reason to be on. I know people who leave computers and monitors on all the time as well as many other items throughout the house that are effectively sucking down Watts and wasting you money – when that Bill hits the floor, you wonder why it so high right?

Why Save Energy?
What drives you to buy THAT Device NOW.
How many times have you saw something in a store and even though you never walked out the door that morning to buy that device, here you are standing wondering if it is a good buy or not? When you look for something on-line, not only can you quickly find reviews about the product but also compare prices in a heart beat. There may be some of you out there that does not agree with this and only ever buys items on-line or plans your purchases with military precision but there is a reason why people such as myself get lured into looking at items that otherwise you would ignore.
Cutting Costs
Just the other day I sat there and questioned as to all the little gadgets I buy and of what use they were and was I in fact just wasting money blinded by flashing lights and whizzing noises as I walked around the stores? Why do I have so many computers lying around doing nothing for example, these been the previous main used machine but since moved into second place due to a newer model sitting in the main spot. How many times have you seen a device and thought “that would be great for …..”
Are Programmers getting lazy?
My Nephew (Andrew) sent me a link to an Article published on ZDNET and I will save repeating the post here and instead go into some thoughts on that very article. The bottom line of that story was if a programmers is using a screaming fast system with lots of ram, will they just assume what they have wrote is fine yet the end program will struggle on more “real life” system?

Internet cut off date set for illegal downloaders
In the UK – Lord Peter Mandelson has outlined the details of anti file-sharing legislation set to come into play – naming the date when illegal downloaders’ internet connections could be cut off.
The Business Secretary, speaking at the digital creative industries conference cabinet, said that if the amount of illegal file-sharing taking place in the UK hadn’t dropped by 70 per cent a year on from April 2010 measures to cut off file-sharers’ connections would come into place from July 2011.

I am afraid it has come to that time of my life again when I need to re-think various aspects and change things around a bit. This serves as weeding out the crap by the sheer fact not everyone follow me everywhere (such as reading this blog). So you asking what has changed? keep reading for the full shimmy.

Ordering Online – Amazon

While I do order things online now and then, sometimes I am happier to walk / drive to the computer stores as it works out either quicker, cheaper or both and of course much easier to return. By random chance, after looking at Dell Refurb – I spotted that they featured a ATI Radeon 4670 Graphics card and this set me off to look at what this offered.
To Buy New or upgrade what I have
My current desktop computer is a Acer which has been upgraded by way of the CPU and harddrives and seen as it#s an off the shelf thing, it has a standard 350 Watt power Supply and a rather limited case I would say. I pondered on upgrading what I have (cheaper) or buying a new one outright for the new technology. The current spec of the machine is Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4Ghz), 4 GIG DDR-2 Ram, 1TB + 250Gig HD, Geforce 7600GS.
