DD-WRT has been going for some time now and it is in effect a complete replacement firmware for your router. Virgin Media supplied the D-Link 615 Rev 4 and I found this to be very slow, very restrictive and missing some important features. Instead of buying a new router, I went with DD-WRT instead. You can head off to the Main site for DD_WRT and find the files for your own brand of router.

DD-WRT Router Firmware replacement
The Day my HTC Hero died
This morning when I woke up, I noticed a message on the phone “There is a system update available”. I set it off to download, it restarted, installed the update and restarted again. I was left at the HTC Hero starting screen – I assumed that it might take a while before updating or something, so I left it plugged in and on while I went off to the Gym at 9am. I returned at 10:30am and the phone was in the same state -i.e. Not working. Maybe reboots, took sim out, tried the rom screen (Power & Back key while switching on) and nothing I did made it work.

Playstation 3 and the Banning Order
The one console that remained rock steady in the light of people hacking them to play illegal and unsigned software was the playstation 3. A person by the name of Geohot managed to work out the secret security key that all playstation software is signed with. Armed with this information, you could load a game / application onto the PS3 and it thought it was an official piece of software and ran no problems. Ther was in fact three area’s that were of concern here and these were playing pirated games (Sony looses money), Install Homebrew software and finally hacking on-line games somehow. Sony recently not only updated the firmware to 3.56 to combat this but also issued an email to all people it suspected of running the firmware and saying it would ban them if they did not remove it.
Sony Playstation 3 rolls out new firmware
Sony keeps updating it firmware with what they call ‘Security Fixes’ but add nothing that I can see to the mix. I was hoping for example to see ability to play music while playing games and other goodies but the fact remains is that Sony just keep updating the firmware to try and stop people running firmware that allows you to install homebrew utilities and games. The problem is that a person by the name of GeoHot found the encryption key and the only way really for Sony is to replace the hardware – this is not going to happen.
T-Mobile Failed on HTC Hero
I would like to write a story About Android Phones, I would like to add into the mix HTC and then add some finely chopped T-Mobile to that mix with the idea to come out with the HTC Hero running Android 2.1 with all the trimmings and also easy enough for a normal customer to complete right? Without ruining the story, if it was possible to go back in time – I would be sitting here right now with an iPhone 3GS - yes you heard that right….
