I want to take you back all the way to 2007, this is when the first sites started to come up which allowed anyone with a computer, webcam and a microphone the ability to have their very own TV show if you like. Back in them days, of course, we had no adverts and there was many people jumping on the bandwagon to start their very own show. If we look towards the tech shows of the time, two people were ahead of the game; this being Chris Pirillo & Leo Laporte. These people were no strangers to TV, they used to be on the USA show TechTV and many people strived to be like them, the same sort of show, the same graphics and even the same format. I wish to chart the rise and the fall of Tech Shows in general and look towards the future. READ MORE »

The Mentalist – Truth or Fake?
I have seen my fair share of shows on the streaming side of life but when I came across a show going by the name of the Mentalist, this is when you have to wonder what it is all about. This person is from Ireland and his name is Tom Williams, his blurb claims he is also a psychic medium and one of his party tricks is to give you a ‘reading’ – he does private video sessions (£60 per day) – go figure. Let me tell you about the one night that I happen to catch him live on air.
Adsense – so easy to fail
Google run a thing called Adsense, the publishers pay Google money to have there adverts displayed and people can apply for an account which allows adverts to be placed on pages, such as this blog for example. This works on Trust in that Google do not want you or anyone else to just click the adverts to make money and the publishers hope google keep an eye on people trying to do this. It is Very easy indeed for google to suddenly one day ban your account and once it is banned, there is no way to find out why and no way to get Adsense back.
Mac vs. PC – the age old debate
The age old argument that has been going around since the dawn of time, which is best – the apple or the PC and in this sense we mean either a computer running Windows or it could be Linux of course. For the Tech savvy end user, building your own machine can be cheaper, much more powerful and more upgradable than the Mac range of computers. On the other hand we have a beautiful all-in-one that is the iMac and nothing can beat the one plug professional looking box which also happens to have the 27″ screen of course. I wanted to use this post not to go through the age old arguments but to ask the question of “why should I spend all that money and buy an iMac”
Training Update Month Three
I am trying to keep the number of posts about fitness and training to a low number, I would hate to force feed the readers with a weekly update of me going to the gym and brag about it – this is not my point but more of how much down the road to changing my lifestyle to be bigger, fitter, stronger and overall better (in my eyes). Fitness is not for everyone I understand and can be a annoying to read about even.
My original goal was to become stronger, maybe bigger but at no point did I expect to be like a “body-builder” – I had told myself that I had tried this a few times in the past (during my time in the army for example) and I failed to get big back then so I assumed that my body was just “not the type” to get big and strong. In this post I plan to lay out what I have learned along the way and my short term goals.
iPad review – the first few days
While this review is technically a year late – the iPad is not a new device and most people have probably seen one, tried one or actually own there own. The purpose of this quick review is to give a viewpoint of someone who had no interest in anything Apple including the iPad and even stating that I could not see a reason to go out and buy one. As you may know from the previous post, I managed to enter a competition GFI were running over the Christmas season and was the lucky winner. As I only had device a few days, it maybe is not a fair review so far, but as I said, it is a first impression of this magical device apple like to call it – does it live up to the hype?
An Apple for Christmas
Before we begin, the story is not about me buying an Apple for Christmas, this is a tale of the ‘normal’ people view of apple, what there children are asking for and the shock factor when you tell them how much they cost, what they do and probably why there children want one. By the way – the picture above – Designed and hand-built by Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak, the Apple I was Apple’s first product, and went on sale in July 1976 at the distinctly unsettling price of $666.66. Only 200 units were produced, and unlike many other computers of the day, the Apple I came as a fully assembled circuit board containing around 30 chips.
Ford Turning Off PCs at Night to Save $1.2M
Despite more efficient chips and monitor technologies, the electricity bills for large scale computer use are still considerable for corporations. While not much can be done to reduce power consumption while a computer is in use, Ford Motor Company is launching a new initiative that aims to save over $1 million a year through smarter power management.
Under a new program called PC Power Management, the power settings on Windows laptops and desktop computers are centrally controlled to reduce energy waste and optimize software updates. With its power profile enabled, each PC monitors its usage patterns and determines when it can be turned off. If the user is working late, he or she will be alerted of the approaching power down and given the opportunity to delay it. In addition, the PC is able to detect when a Microsoft Office product is active and is able to save open documents before shutting down in case the user is not present.
What drives you to buy THAT Device NOW.
How many times have you saw something in a store and even though you never walked out the door that morning to buy that device, here you are standing wondering if it is a good buy or not? When you look for something on-line, not only can you quickly find reviews about the product but also compare prices in a heart beat. There may be some of you out there that does not agree with this and only ever buys items on-line or plans your purchases with military precision but there is a reason why people such as myself get lured into looking at items that otherwise you would ignore.
Cutting Costs
Just the other day I sat there and questioned as to all the little gadgets I buy and of what use they were and was I in fact just wasting money blinded by flashing lights and whizzing noises as I walked around the stores? Why do I have so many computers lying around doing nothing for example, these been the previous main used machine but since moved into second place due to a newer model sitting in the main spot. How many times have you seen a device and thought “that would be great for …..”
