I have an HP 6715B Laptop which is powered by the AMD Turion 64 X2, features the ATI’s Radeon Xpress X1250 and one of the great features of this 15.4 inch laptop is the fact the display runs at 1680 x 1050 which is equivalent to a 20″ display right. Now the Laptop is getting on a bit these days and HP laptops in my own experience tend to suffer badly with mainly the graphics failing. My Problem is that upon switching on the Laptop, the BIOS Screen with sit there for a good while, maybe 5 minutes or more? Once it got past that it booted and worked fine.

Do we really need DVD these days?
We have seen that the new Mac Mini is now void of any drive to insert DVD’s into and f you look at any of the latest tablet / laptop type computers – they too have no drive to insert any DVD’s into. You may ask yourself what if you wanted to install the operating system, what about playing DVD movies and god forbid you wanted to sabre some data to cd to send off right?
I wanted to use this post to look at ways to show that in fact CD/DVD as a medium is in fact dying out and there is always a way around doing things better using other media, namely memory sticks.
Browser Shootout, which is best?
The great thing about web browsers is they are all free and in reality you can load as many as you want on whatever operating system you choose. Recently though we had Internet Explorer V9 released to the world, we had Firefox V4 RC and finally Chrome is at Version 10 I think. You can scour the web and find benchmarks and these shows (Depending on which site they used to test them) that <insert browser name here> is the best. I want to explore this from my own personal view point, both in a work situation and at home and show that indeed, there is not one clear winner.
Why are people looking for an iPad Killer Device?
I keep seeing sites that show a new or upcoming tablet computer and label it as the “iPad Killer” and then it turns out it is in fact not as good or cheap as they expected or worse, the device never see’s the light of day. The iPad has some nice things going for it such as light, well made, large screen, multi touch display, responsive and generally the applications just work. The down side I think most people look are the price (cheapest model in the UK is £439), the fact you need iTunes to even make it work, no way to plug in your own media, no webcam, no way to install your own applications of choice (unless your jailbreak the device) and the fact most apps seems to cost money. I have a feeling we are going to get flooded with devices in 2011 that look and feel every similar to the iPad such as the Samsung Tab and other of its type.
Dell Latitude 2110 Netbook
A very brief review of the Dell Latitude 2110 Netbook (USA people click HERE). There is a few good reasons why this might suit your needs over the Acer and others out there and the price range is $400+ or £289 – a lot depends on the specs your choose of course such as operating system, memory and hard drive etc. This is just an overview as I only had one day to take a look at this device and get it ready with Windows XP.
50Mbit update and QoS
Its been a full week of my upgrade to the 50mbit and I thought I would write a post just updating people on how it is going and some lessons learnt. The important thing to note I suppose is that jumping around the speedtest sites and getting annoyed when it does not do what it says on the tin only serves to annoy you when in reality it could be the site your testing from that does not have enough bandwidth.
Acer Aspire E700 NAS Box
As per my other post abut NAS Drives – yesterday I took it upon myself to build a NAS box from parts I already had and thus save myself spending any money. The goal if you recall was to have a system that was able to be upgraded in space later such as adding 1TB or larger Harddrives as needs arose. This journey took a while to get everything ready and was the end result worth the effort involved?
