I want to take you back all the way to 2007, this is when the first sites started to come up which allowed anyone with a computer, webcam and a microphone the ability to have their very own TV show if you like. Back in them days, of course, we had no adverts and there was many people jumping on the bandwagon to start their very own show. If we look towards the tech shows of the time, two people were ahead of the game; this being Chris Pirillo & Leo Laporte. These people were no strangers to TV, they used to be on the USA show TechTV and many people strived to be like them, the same sort of show, the same graphics and even the same format. I wish to chart the rise and the fall of Tech Shows in general and look towards the future. READ MORE »

Is SSD a must have product?
I am sure that it may have crossed your mind to replace your main system drive from the old and slow mechanical SATA drive to a faster SSD. Looking at the prices of SSD will show that that it’s about £1 per GB (give or take) and to have full advantage of the speed on offer, you need to have a SATA III Connection (6GB/Sec). The main issue will be one of space; it is easier than you think to fill a 120GIG Drive. Recently I had a new works laptop (Dell Latitude E6420) and this came with a SSD Drive installed (Samsung SSD PM810) and the boot time of 30 seconds was impressive until you realise that this is a fresh build Windows 7 and not joined the domain.
Why not to fix Laptops at home
I work in computers and quite often people come to me with computers to fix. You can understand why they do this due to the fact if they took it to a shop, they would be charged a good chunk of money. For some time now I have been told people “I do not fix computers” outside of work and for good reason, quite often people wanted to pay the lowest value for the most amount of work. Recently I took on a laptop to fix, a Compaq CQ61, maybe I felt sorry for the guy and maybe I thought it was an easy fix – how wrong I was.
Training Update Month Three
I am trying to keep the number of posts about fitness and training to a low number, I would hate to force feed the readers with a weekly update of me going to the gym and brag about it – this is not my point but more of how much down the road to changing my lifestyle to be bigger, fitter, stronger and overall better (in my eyes). Fitness is not for everyone I understand and can be a annoying to read about even.
My original goal was to become stronger, maybe bigger but at no point did I expect to be like a “body-builder” – I had told myself that I had tried this a few times in the past (during my time in the army for example) and I failed to get big back then so I assumed that my body was just “not the type” to get big and strong. In this post I plan to lay out what I have learned along the way and my short term goals.
The true cost of keeping fit
They say that no matter what sport or hobby you choose, if you get serious about it,then it will cost you money. I was just thinking about how my initial steps into the world of keeping myself fit has started to take on a lot more of my time and also my wallet. I started with the equipment I already had (some loose weights) and added to this a punch bag, some dumbbells and finally a bar to fit across the door to allow me to do pull-ups and such. Although I dabbled in buying Protein drinks, it was always when they were in a Sale and bought anything to be honest. I hit a point in my training were I choose in my case to advance forward with what I saw as the cheapest route forward – this was joining a gym.
Fixing computers for friends and family
I have worked in I.T. for most of my working life and basically people expect you to fix there computer for them – either for free or very cheap indeed. As well as fixing computers, we also have the on-demand computer expert when they are buying something, such as a Laptop or a Printer for example. It might start off with just the odd person but eventually you can be sitting with 3 Laptops to fix when in reality you should be doing something more productive. How does it build up and why are computers different from says cars for example?
Soluto – Speed up your Boot time
Have you ever wondered why it takes so long for your Windows Machine to load up ever day? While there is tools out there that can help yo in the process, what about a nice graphical and very easy to use FREE piece of software to do the task for you? Soluto is that very tool and I gave it a whirl – read on to see what I thought.
Live Streaming shows and time zones
I thought I would write a few words on live streaming shows, how it effects me (and most European people) and time zones. I was thinking back when I used to spend most of my time on Ustream as the site of choice to catch the latest person streaming a show from there web-cam and even stay up late so I could feature on these very shows, armed with IRC Client of choice and be part of a community of Tech minded people from all over the world, mostly USA based though. Of course time changes everything and some things have to fall by the way side, this is my update if you like on how it interacts with my life now.
