Recently I had to stock up at work on USB Flash drives, the capacity was not so important and the main aim was price I guess. I spotted the Kingston DataTraveler 108, the price was a s chap as the rest of the 4 GIG flash drives and it looked tiny. We bought five of these and I gave one a run through once it arrived.

HP Premium Digital Headset (XA490AA)
I noticed my previous Logitech Headset which I used for all voice comms (Skype and such) was still working, the foam had started to rip, this meant it was time for a new headset. I went to my local Tesco store and by chance noticed they had some HP Premium Digital headset for £25. I checked out the box and noticed it was USB, this was good as I prefer USB to jacks for headphones. I questioned myself would it be any good, will the noise stay in these one’s or escape like the last set I Bought. Would the microphone be good or some cheap low quality thing these things often have. I took a chance on the grounds if it was bad, I would take it back.
Do we really need DVD these days?
We have seen that the new Mac Mini is now void of any drive to insert DVD’s into and f you look at any of the latest tablet / laptop type computers – they too have no drive to insert any DVD’s into. You may ask yourself what if you wanted to install the operating system, what about playing DVD movies and god forbid you wanted to sabre some data to cd to send off right?
I wanted to use this post to look at ways to show that in fact CD/DVD as a medium is in fact dying out and there is always a way around doing things better using other media, namely memory sticks.
Strange issues with USB Drive on OSX Lion
I had a spare USB Drive made by iOmega and is a 500GIG Dive and if I remember correctly it is a IDE type drive inside not SATA. The goal was to have this drive plugged into the imac and use it as a time machine backup drive. I started time machine running but after a few minutes the drive went from the desktop and time machine complained it had no drive to back up to. The only way to get the drive back was to power it off and on. This left me puzzled, so I turned to the PC next to my iMac to do some serious testing.
StarTech 1.8in USB to Micro SATA Hard Drive Enclosure
If you have a spare 1.8inch drive hanging about with a micro SATA Connector, it is handy to place this into a external case and use it as a spare drive. The case comes in a box which includes the instruction manual, some extra sponge bits for smaller drives, a screwdriver, a USB Lead, a pouch and the case itself. Size wise it is 96mm x 60mm x 12mm, so you can see it is very small indeed.
Playstation Move Starter Pack
I had been looking at buying the Playstation Move starter pack for some time and it was either out of stock or the price was too expensive. When the VAT went up in the UK to 20% – most retailers seem to be selling this now for £50 upwards and for some reason, I was not happy to pay that price. While out shopping today, I happen to notice one box for sale in my local supermarket (Tesco) going for £40. I bit the bullet and bought the Pack – would I be happy with what I had just bought or would I regret chucking money at some sort of gimmick device?
iPortable–bootable Mac USB Drive
It is quite hard to turn your average PC into something that runs Mac OS X and normally requires you have the right motherboard and other parts to make it even get to the install stage. What if you could make a USB stick that boots a safe version of OS X (no graphic or sound drivers) and generally works without wiping your present drives – great right? I shall document what I have done so far and what the outcome was in regards this amazing program – iPortable.
PS3 Wireless Bluetooth Headset Review
Even though the PS3 could be used with my Current Logitech USB Headset or my Bluetooth Headset from my Mobile phone, the Bluetooth headset from Sony designed for the PS3 had a lot going for it compared to the other solutions. Whilst I agree that at this time I do not actually speak to anyone in-game via the PS3, I have already seen items I looked at before go up in price – so with this when I pasted by a store I had seen the price cheaper than the rest – I took the plunge, placed my hard earned cash on the desk and bought this device. The goal of this article is to go through the first 48 hours of owning the device and what to expect if you bought one.
Kingston Data Traveller G2 USB Stick
USB Memory Sticks are common and cheap these days and there is a whole range of designs and types to choose from. As I use these on a daily basis, you soon get to know what works and what does not and I felt the need to write a very quick Blog post in reference to the Kingston Data Traveller G2 – though any type that slides out and locks could have the same issue. These work by the USB part going inside the body and they lock in the out position for use – thus cutting down on the size. The problem comes when the part that locks the port out does not work as well. With daily use, these will eventually not lock in as tight as they used to and upon trying to insert into a Port – the USB part going back inside the body. The solution is to tape the thing to stop it going back in.
Synology USB Station 2
Synology have a low end product for sharing USB Hard Drives ( as well as printers) which is called USB Station 2. You can buy this product for £79.99 – I am not sure of USA Pricing at this time. This uses the same OS as the rest of the Synology Range (DSM 3.0) so you can use it as a download station, share printers across the network and even plug in a USB Wireless network card and make this thing wireless. You could spend the same money for a Print sharing device and it may look and act like the PogoPlug (except it is not shocking pink) but is in fact a full blown NAS – just with USB Speeds for the drives.
