Ultimate Windows Tweaker
End of the Line for the iMac
I was a long time supporter of all things PC and by this I mean Windows, Linux, Build it yourself desktop machine and so forth – Apple were (and still are) expensive for what you actually get considering now they use the same hardware as a desktop PC. What you may also have noticed was wrote about and Owned a top of the range iMac – so how come this post? Let me explain all.
Vista Service Pack 2 is Released to manufacturers
This is probably old news now but Microsoft have finalised the changes of Service pack 2 for Vista (SP2) and provided OEM copies so that all new machines can includes SP2 by default. This means it is not long now before it is included in the Windows Update and requires SP1 to be installed before it will allow any installations.
Will Windows 7 be as fast when it goes Gold
I have seen many reviews of the Beta of Windows 7 and even tested it myself – I agree it is faster “out of the box” then Vista and uses less memory, less services are running and by all accounts seems to b the answer to Microsoft Prayers. The thought on my mind and I know this from every single beta MS has ever put out there – will the end product be as good?
I see this as a make or break time for MS in terms of Operating systems – they still make lots of money anyhow on Servers and people buying machines with Windows pre-installed but were they make there real money is not from consumers but from the 1000′s of licences companies buy for each desktop OS. Even when they do bring out Windows 7 – many companies will want to wait for Service pack one.
Vista has Left the Building
I have toyed with Vista on and off for some time now and the Sidebar is a very nice feature but everything else is just a glossy version of XP for example. I had one machine left on Vista (Excluding the Virtual machines) and after using the iMac for so long, it struck me why this was fated to be deleted and replaced by Windows XP Pro SP2. Lets go through some Spec’s and compare and contrast:
Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz (E6600)
3 GIG DDR-2 Ram
Various HD’s in there.
GeForce 7600GT
In reality this machine should be powered up and ready to use quicker then the following Dell machine:
Pentium 4 3.2Ghz (640 Series)
2 GIG DDR 2 Ram
80 GIG SATA Drive.
But the reality is the Dell is up and ready to use not long after I press the power button, such is the difference between XP and Vista. I am busy rebuilding it now as I type this (On the mac).
